PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: January 1, 2026
Chess and Ladders ("we", "us") is an online chess variant by Jason Dih and Owen Marton. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.
Data we collect
- Account data: email address, hashed password, chosen username, optional display name and profile picture.
- Gameplay data: multiplayer room state (moves, board layout, timers) linked to your player ID. Inactive rooms are automatically cleaned up.
- Device data: local preferences stored in your browser (onboarding completion, sound state, puzzle progress).
We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
How we use it
- To authenticate you and let you play with friends.
- To display your username and avatar to other players.
- To operate the service, prevent abuse, and improve gameplay.
How it's stored
Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider — we never see or store plain-text passwords. Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in managed infrastructure with row-level security so users can only access their own personal records.
Sharing
We do not sell your data. We use trusted infrastructure providers to host the game and its database.
Your rights
- Access & correction: update your username, display name, avatar, or password on the Account page.
- Deletion: permanently delete your account and associated data from the Account page.
- Contact: for any privacy request, email support@chessladdergame.com.
Retention
We keep account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your profile, avatar, and per-user records. Multiplayer room records expire automatically after brief inactivity.
Changes
We may update this policy; the "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.
